The amount of time that was actually devoted to the news was around 20 minutes. They spent a little over a minute devoted to the weather and less then two minutes were spent with talking amongst the different anchors. The lead Story was about a little boy who's body was found iny Berklee. His mothers body had also been found that day. This story was chosen because of, among other things, the "if it bleeds it leads" notion. The news tends to lean toward using these stories because they deal with the lives of humans. The anchors seem to have a dull monotone voice during the sad stories, but whenever there is a story about something that may be sort of happy, they perk up a bit and crack a smile.
That's kind of sad that 1/3 of the whole "news" is commercials. And it's sad that the spent the majority of the news talking about a dead kid and his mother. While I admit it is sad, it hardly is as newsworthy or life changing to many as say the H1N1 Vaccines + Problems (with the same alotted time spent on discussion) and Obama to China/Criticizes Iran.
ReplyDeleteit is said to know that nowsdays the media tend to be focus on more advertisement than the important news to the public and indirectly lead to the public less concerns on news or some of them have no way to get information on the media.

The commercials during the news always make me sad for this country. All the government wants us to do is but a gas-guzzler, wear a suit, buy an alarm, invest in a bank. It is so sad that the news doesn't show more positive, happy stories to inspire us to get out in the worl and make a difference.
ReplyDeletei totally agree, its a shame that they do that. I mean a focus on money and publicity! come on they already lack detail in their stories as it is. If they put as much time into good news coverage as they do marketing, I think the news may be worth watching again
ReplyDeleteWith this media survey its surprising to see how much news your actually getting from the NEWS. The main focus of the news is to not bring the news but to advertise the sponsors.
